Rangers gives counter-terrorism training to NED students in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers conducted a counter-terrorism training exercise for students in the metropolis on Tuesday.

During the training students from Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw (NED) University were trained on how to deal with incidents of terrorism and were also given basic weapons training.

The training demonstration took place at the Rangers Shooting & Saddle Club (RSSC) on the outskirts of Karachi.

More than 200 students of NED University visited the RSSC to observe the counter-terrorism training demonstration, Sachal Rangers official Khalid Goraya said.

Counter-terrorism trainings like these are slowly becoming the norm in Pakistan, which has faced a surge in terrorist attacks in recent weeks.

Since June last year, the Pakistan army has been waging a major campaign against strongholds of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants in the North Waziristan tribal area, killing over 2,000 terrorists.

The military stepped up its fight against militants since Taliban gunmen massacred more than 150 people, most of them children, at the Army Public School in Peshawar on December 16.

Following the massacre, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ended a six-year moratorium on the death penalty and has since hung a number of convicted terrorists.
