KARACHI: The wife of condemned prisoner, Saulat Mirza has appealed to defer the execution of her husband for 2-3 months.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Friday, Nighat Malik also demanded high ups to provide them security as they were receiving life threats.

She went on to say that their appeal be heard at the earliest.

Earlier, the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday dismissed a petition seeking to defer Saulat Mirza’s execution and reopening the murder case of MD KESC Shahid Hamid.

The petition was filed yesterday by Mirza’s wife and maintained that he was a key witness and his execution would lead to evidence being buried with him. The petition further said that Mirza’s execution would be of benefit to some criminals.

The SHC remarked that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had dismissed an appeal against Saulat Mirza’s execution.

Saulat Mirza was convicted of murdering Shahid Hamid, his driver and guard outside Hamid’s residence in the DHA area of Karachi in July, 1997.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi had earlier this month issued new death warrant for Saulat Mirza’s execution at the Machh Jail on May 12.

The death-row inmate had received a stay in his execution after he made startling revelations regarding the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in a video statement.
