Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez received a 12-month ban from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Friday, following an independent assessment of his bowling action which was suspected of being illegal.

Suspicions arose during the first test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka played in June. Following questions raised by match officials the 34-year-old was was assessed in Chennai where it was discovered his elbow extension exceeded 15 degrees while bowling and therefore he “employed an illegal bowling action”.

This is the second time Hafeez has been suspended from playing due to an illegal bowling action, the first time he received the ban was in November 2014.
