Syria´s Aleppo city pushed to brink of humanitarian disaster: IC

AMMAN: The escalating violence inSyria´s Aleppo city is pushing people living under bombardmentand shelling to the brink of a humanitarian disaster, theInternational Committee of the Red Cross said in a statement.

It said the intense battles raging in Aleppo between theopposition and government-led forces had worsened thehumanitarian plight of tens of thousands of residents in thecity that it described as one of the worst affected in the pastfive years of conflict.

Dozens have died in the past week of escalating violence asgovernment forces step up air raids against rebel held areas andthe opposition also shells residential areas in government helddistricts of the divided city.
