PM Nawaz announced the distribution of 76000 health cards as he inaugurated the National Health Programme

QUETTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced the distribution of 76000 health cards as he inaugurated the National Health Programme on Monday.

In his address he said that in the first phase of the programme health cards will be distributed to people in Quetta, Loralai, Kech and Lasbela.

“We are completing another milestone of our journey today,” he said. “This health programme will provide insurance to the poor.”

Calling the health programme a revolution, the Prime Minister explained that using these health cards the poor will be able to enter any private hospital and seek treatment free of cost.

“No longer will the poor have to sell their houses or property to seek treatment. Health will be accessible to each and every person,” he said.

He added that he will personally oversee the programme. “Access to health facilities is the state’s duty to its people. It is the people’s right.”

Lamenting the culture of sit-ins and protests, he said that investors shy away from countries with volatile political situation. “Without investment there can be no employment opportunities. We have to fight against this negative culture,” he said.

The Prime Minister vowed to tackle the energy crisis. “In the year 2013 10-hour load-shedding was the norm. We will not leave the energy-crisis for the next government to solve. You will see improvement by 2018.”

Without naming anyone he said that “some people” are trying to create a political crisis. “On their insistence we created a commission. Now let the commission do its job,” he said.

He said the country was on the road to success. “Earlier Pakistan’s name would appear in the list of corrupt countries. Now it is being praised for its transparency.”
