KARACHI:Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla on Monday said that vehicle registration books would soon be converted into smart cards. He added, that the introduction of smart cards is aimed at to facilitate vehicle owners which will make iteasier to keep computerized data of vehicles.

Addressing a meeting in his office, Chawla said that fake registration books will be useless after introduction of smart cards, adding the fake vehicle registration books are a serious security threat.

He further said that offices of Excise Department will be established near car showrooms and relevant staff will be deployed on site.

He said that the task of vehicle inspection and physical verification will be performed at these offices. He said that the decision isaimed to provide facilities to the general public; terming itextremely necessary to save data of all vehicles and their owners in order to minimize the danger of terrorism.
