HYDERABAD: Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Sports Haleem Adil Shaikh has said the government would initiate action against illegal occupiers of sports grounds in Sindh as to provide spaces to young people for healthy activities. He said this while talking to media after attending a reception organized by Pakistan Muslim League (Q) workers at Hyderabad Press Club.
The Advisor emphasized that sports was as much necessary for a healthy society as education.
"We know that many playgrounds are either under illegal occupations or are being used for illicit activities by drug users," he said, adding that "my ministry is trying to snatch guns and provide bats, balls and hockeys to the youth."
Talking about the law and orders situation in Karachi, Shaikh underscored the need of a concerted effort by all the political parties which exist in the city.
"Q league joined the government to support democracy, peace and stability in the country and in that regard the party will play its due role in restoring peace in Karachi," the Advisor said. He appreciated President Asif Ali Zardari and MQM chief Altaf Hussain for their efforts to calm down the boiling situation in Karachi, adding that his party's chief Chaudhry Shujat also contributed to reconcile the situation.
"He worked as a bridge between the two parties," he added. In reply to a question, he accused the PML-N for trying to weaken the country's institutions. "The party's name should be changed to Nawaz league because its role in creating instability in the country is the one which can't be played by a Muslim league," he commented.
The advisor also praised Chaudhry Pervez Elahi's initiative of providing subsidized goods to the people in Ramzan through the utility stores.
Earlier, PML-Q's Hyderabad Organizer Chaudhry Mazharul Haq, leaders of ladies wing and workers of the party welcomed the Advisor.
