Naeemul Haque's funeral prayers held in Karachi

Naeemul Haque, a close aide of Prime Minister Imran Khan, passed away late Saturday night at the age of 70

KARACHI: The funeral prayers of Naeemul Haque, one of the senior-most members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who passed away Saturday night, were offered here on Sunday inAyesha Masjid (Mosque) in the metropolis' DHA locality.

A close aide of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Haque passed away late Saturday at the age of 70 in Karachi. He had been battling cancer for the past two years.

A banker and businessperson by profession and one of the co-founders of the ruling party, he was instrumental in promoting positive change in Pakistan as part of the PTI’s ideology.

In January 2018, seven months before the general elections, Haque was diagnosed with blood cancer. When the PTI finally came into power later that year, he was appointed as the special assistant on political affairs to PM and was involved in a number of initiatives ranging from housing scheme, party operations, strategic development goals, and appointments.

The PTI had tweeted its condolences, describing him as "a dedicated Pakistani, a loyal friend and a kind human being."

The prime minister, a close friend, said he was "devastated" by Haque's passing.

"He was one of the 10 founding members of the PTI and by far the most loyal," the prime minister wrote. "In 23 years of PTI's trials and tribulations, he stood by me. He was always there for support whenever we were at our lowest ebb."

"In the last two years, I saw him battle cancer with courage and optimism," PM Imran wrote.

"Till the very end, he was involved in party affairs and attended cabinet meetings as long as he was able. His passing has left an irreplaceable void."

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif also paid his respects to the deceased. "Very sad to hear about the passing away of Naeem-ul-Haq," he tweeted.

"My profound condolences to the bereaved family and the PTI. May Allah rest his soul in peace!"

President Arif Alvi expressing his condolence said it "was a pleasure to have known him as a close friend for the last 40 years".

"May his soul rest in peace & may Allah give strength to his family to bear this loss," he added.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said: "His [Haque's] commitment to the party and services to PTI were invaluable.

"He was a great friend and shall be missed. May his soul rest in peace," Qureshi added.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS ) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also expressed grief on the sad demise of Haque. “May Allah bless the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family, Aamen,” he was quoted by military’s media wing as saying.

In a Twitter thread honouringHaque, the PTI wrote that he was "the entity in PTI that everyone adored because he was one of the few who welcomed everyone to the party and never felt any insecurity. The man was full of life and knew how to make life long relationships".

"He was full of optimism and passed on this trait to the Youth of PTI. Even at the gloomy time, he held his head up high and told us that we are destined to success because we have Imran Khan leading us and we are on the Haq."
