MUZAFFARABAD: The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has decided to ease the coronavirus lockdown for a week, a spokesperson said Thursday, following developments in the rest of Pakistan.

In a press conference, AJK Information Technology and Population Welfare Minister Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi said the restrictions will be eased for five days of the week, barring Tuesday andFriday.

All shops will be allowed to remain open from 8am to 4pm while milk and dairy retailers will be permitted to stay open till 6pm, DrAbbasi said, adding that public offices will also be open but with limited staff.

Restaurants will be permitted to remain open from 4pm to sehri, early in the morning, during the holy month of Ramadan but dining-in will not be allowed, he said.

Services of barbers and public transport will remain suspended completely, the AJK government spokesperson added, noting that pillion riding was also banned.

However, three people — including the driver — will be allowed to travel in private cars.
