54 shopkeeper arrested for overcharging

LAHORE: Price Control Magistrates of the City Government during ongoing drive, issued 190 challans and arrested 54 shopkeepers besides lodging nine FIRs for overcharging and hoarding during last three days.

The magistrates also imposed an amount of Rs 148,400 as fine during this period. According to a report presented to the DCO during a meeting on Monday, the special teams checked more than 1048shopkeepers, wholesale dealers and stockists across the city out of which 199 were found violating the price act and the action was taken against them.

DCO Ahad Cheema directed the city administration to take appropriate measures to keep check and balance in the prices of essential items. He said that the government is utilizing every possible resources to provide essential items to the public on reduced rates with standardized quality.

Cheema said that strict disciplinary action would be initiated against the officials if found negligence in duties.
