65 encountered, 8593 arrested in 11mths

KARACHI: The Karachi Police and CID killed 65 and arrested 8593 accused while 40 policemen embraced martyrdom and 75 got injured during the raids and encounters against criminals from January 1 to November 2, 2011.

This was stated in a report presented to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah about the performance of Karachi Police and CID from January 1 to November 2, 2011, according to a statement issued on Thursday.

The Police busted 691 groups of outlaws during the period of 11 months in 2011.

The Sindh Police Chief was apprised that 7 LMGs, 165 Kalashnikovs, 164 rifles, 219 shot guns, 5834 pistols/ revolver/ mousers, 14 rocket launchers, 450 hand grenades and 317 kilogrammes of explosive material were also recovered from the accused.

Mushtaq Ahmed Shah has directed the Sindh Police to adopt all security measures to ensure protection of life and property of the people.

He also called for development of cooperation among all departments of the police to take effective action against criminal elements. (APP)
