NAIROBI: Two German tourists and two pilots were killed when their airplane crashed Wednesday in Kenya's renowned Maasai Mara national park, with at least three other tourists badly injured, police said.

"Four people died on the spot, while three others were seriously wounded," said local police chief Peterson Maelo. A total of five Germans, four Americans and two Czechs were reported on board the aircraft. The pilots' nationalities were not known.

An aircraft with 14 passengers crashed Wednesday in Kenya's Maasai Mara national park, one of the East African's country's most popular safari destinations for tourists, officials said.

Morris Sijenyi of the Flying Doctors Service air ambulance service said the organisation had sent a team to the site.

"Our team responded to a distress call from the Maasai Mara. We have our team on the ground, they are bringing those recovered to Nairobi," he told AFP.

"We do not have any more details since our team does not have time to answer calls as they are attending to the injured."

Mutia Mwandikwa from Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the crash of the propeller plane in the world-renowned park, but could not give details of any fatalities. (AFP)
