MOSCOW: A Russian man unhappy with a prior conviction walked into a Urals courtroom on Thursday and detonated a grenade, killing himself and one other person, news agencies reported.
Two others were injured in the incident, which occurred in the Kurgan region, about 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometres) east of Moscow.
The local bailiff service said the man pulled the ring cap on the grenade and threatened to set it off at the courtroom's entrance unless the guards let him through.
He appeared to be carrying three military grenades, ITAR-TASS reported. "When the bailiffs tried to detain him, three explosions went off," the news agency quoted the local bailiff service as saying.
RIA Novosti said the man had a prior conviction for threatening violence against a government official.
