ISLAMABAD: The Benazir International Airport was closed for over an hour for flights following an oil spill on the runway.

The oil spill took place after a failure in the hydraulic system of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing-747.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) sources said flights scheduled to land at the airport were directed to remain airborne until the oil spill was cleared.

Meanwhile, flights scheduled to take off from the airport were also suspended until the spill is cleared.
