PESHAWAR: Health officials have confirmed 12th polio case of current year, which was reported in seven-month child Bakhth Ullah of North Waziristan.
According to official sources, the poliovirus was confirmed in a child by National Institute of Health (NIH) laboratory.
The affected child from this crippling disease was son of Jan Ullah, who lives in Mami-Rogha, Miran Shah, North Waziristan. Bakhth Ullah couldn't receive polio drops due to refusal of his parents.
Health experts claimed that though the present case was the first confirmed polio case from North Waziristan however such type of poliovirus was already reported in total 15 cases, which shows that such virus exists in the area.
Meanwhile, the provinces have been asked to ensure effective polio awareness drives to educate parents to vaccinate their children against this crippling disease.
The next round of vaccination will be held from March 12-14, 2012 in 68 districts and FATA.
