WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama will become the second president in US history to have four oath-taking ceremonies, according to foreign media.

He will be administered the oath of office for a second term in a small, private White House ceremony on Sunday, January 20, the constitutionally mandated date for the inauguration.

Obama will do it all over again, the following day, in front of the public on steps of the Capitol.

He was sworn in twice in 2008 as a result of an extra caution after Chief Justice John Roberts flubbed the oath of office.

Franklin Roosevelt was also sworn-in four times but, unlike Obama, he was elected four times.

This year will mark the seventh time a president has taken the oath on a Sunday and then again on Monday for ceremonial purposes.
