LAHORE: Federation’s counsel Waseem Sajjad has said he did not tell the Lahore High Court that the president would leave political office.
Talking to media in the Attorney General's office, here on Thursday, Waseem Sajjad said that he only told the court that PPP is not a registered political party.
He said that the dissolution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is not easy, adding that only extra constitutional steps could lead to a delay in elections.
Sajjad further said that the members of ECP could only be removed under article 209 of the constitution, adding that a strong reference based on solid reasons is necessary for the removal of the commission’s members.
Commenting on Dr Tahir ul Qadri’s petition regarding restructuring of ECP, Waseem Sajjad said he doesn't know what the Supreme Court would decide on the petition.
