ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has to conduct scrutiny of approximately 3,250 remaining nomination papers on last day today (Sunday), Geo News reported.
The commission has received a total of 24,094 nomination papers, which is a record in Pakistan’s election history. Scrutiny of approximately 20, 844 nomination papers have been completed.
The ECP finally completed receipt of nomination papers from 425 returning officers (ROs) across the country today -- six days after the deadline for submission of nomination papers.
A total of 7364 nominations were filed by candidates aiming for National Assembly seats while 16730 papers came for provincial assembly slots – 4389 for Sindh Assembly; 2522 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly; 1449 for Balochiatan Assembly and; the highest 8370 for Punjab Assembly.
According to ECP, 20743 nomination papers have been sent to the concerned ROs following examination by National Accountability Bureau (NAB), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
