ISLAMABAD: The newly constituted Council of Common Interests (CCI) is meeting for the first time here on Tuesday to chalk out a new energy policy keeping in view the yawning supply-demand gap, Geo News reported.

According to sources, all the four chief ministers and other members of the council are attending the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif.

The stakeholders will be taken into confidence on the current power supply & demand situation and government's plans to overcome the shortfall.

Sources also said that the meeting will also deliberate on tightening the laws for power/gas theft and may suggest imposing even stricter punitive measures on the pilferers.

The leadership is likely to approve the new energy policy for the next five years during today’s meeting.

The meeting will also discuss recently agreed bailout loan package with the International Monetary Fund.
