KARACHI: Scenes of heated debates depicted the Sindh Assembly as a fish market on Monday following naming the Sindh capital separately from the province by some members.

Hot words were exchanged between MPAs belonging to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F).

The rumpus broke out as Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon and Shahyar Mehar of PML-F adopted tough stance on the issue. Acting Speaker Shehla Raza intervened and also turned off microphones of all members besides deleting ‘anti-parliamentary’ words used by the both lawmakers from the official record.

Later, senior minister Nisar Khuhro also raised objection over using names of Karachi and Sindh separately, saying the port city was the capital of Sindh hence separating the two would be incorrect.

Upon which, PML-F’s Nusrat Sehar Abbasi thanked the minister over ‘showing his grief for Sindh’.

Later the session was adjourned till Tuesday.
