According to unofficial, preliminary results from all 360 polling stations of the NA-75 Sialkot-IV constituency, Nosheen Iftikhar has won the race with 110,075 votes.

PTI's Ali Asjad Malhi received 93,433 votes.

This means the PML-N, according to the unofficial results, was able to obtain an edge of 16,642 over PTI.

"However, data from 100 polling stations has yet to be factored in," said Mir.

He added that despite that, managing to close in a gap of 15,000 votes will be a tough task for Malhi.

According to Geo News correspondent Ayaz Akbar Yousufzai, Malhi's ancestral village is located two kilometres ahead of Ghatiala and he was to cast his vote there.

Malhi did return but then when he was about 300 metres away from the polling station, he turned away to go back to the city to go to the returning officer's office where the Form 45 will soon arrive.

RO responds to Nosheen Iftikhar's letter on presiding officers

The returning officer has informed PML-N candidate Nosheen Iftikhar was informed by the returning officer that presiding officers have been told to carry out their responsibilities with responsibility and fairly.

RO, while responding to a letter by the PML-N candidate, said that the ECP’s monitoring team was closely monitoring the polling process.

The RO had written the response after the PML-N candidate had written a letter to him over the attitude of some presiding officers at some polling stations.

CEC asks voters to cast their votes without any fears

Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja on Saturday urged voters to cast their votes without any fear.

Raja, in a conversation with Geo News, assured the people that the ECP and the provincial election commission was monitoring the elections 24/7. He added that if any untoward incident is reported then people should report them.

For the presiding officers, the CEC asked them to share a copy of Form 45 with the election agents and also WhatsApp a copy of the form to the returning officer. He also urged the candidates of the agents not to leave the polling stations without a copy of the form.

Just a day before the hotly-contested NA-75 Daska by-election, PPP on Friday assured its support for PML-N's candidate Nosheen Iftikhar, as the Opposition eyes to upset the government.

PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira has said his party would live up to its promise of supporting the candidate in the by-polls, just as it backed them in February.

"Despite differences in the PDM [Pakistan Democratic Movement], we will stand by our promise," the PPP's central Punjab president said.

Daska is known as an industrial area, but recently it caught the nation’s attention after the PML-N and the PTI got involved in a bitter battle during the February by-elections of the NA-75 Sialkot IV constituency.

Apart from the duel, the constituency became the centre of national politics after the presiding officers of the February by-polls went missing due to fog.

Following the controversial by-election, the ECP order a re-election in NA-75. The PTI had challenged the ECP order in the Supreme Court, but the petition was dismissed and the poll will be held on April 10 as per schedule.

LAHORE: Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja is in Lahore and monitoring the electoral process from the ECP Punjab office, Geo News reported Saturday.

The CEC has directed Secretary Election Commission Dr Akhtar Nazir to reach Sialkot urgently and review the arrangements for the by-polls.

A central monitoring cell has been established by the ECP to address the issues faced during the polling.

PML-N candidate Nosheen Iftikhar has cast her vote in the NA-75 by-polls.

During polling in NA-75, the PML-N candidate visited polling station No 344 and met with several workers from her party.

Iftikhar also approached a polling agent and asked him where he was from. Interestingly, the man responded that he was her polling agent, on which Iftikhar and several others gathered there started laughing.


Tight security arrangements in place

The Election Commission has made tight security arrangements for the by-election to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.

More than 4,000 police personnel and officers have been deployed at 360 polling stations, while Rangers were on standby to deal with any untoward incident.

10 teams of the Pakistan Army are also in the constituency to assist the administration.

There are 4,94,003 registered voters (including 2,73,006 male and 2,20,997 female voters) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has established 360 polling stations including 106 male polling stations, 106 female polling stations and 148 joint (male and female) polling stations. Also, 927 polling booths have also been set up.

The polling started at 8:00am and will continue uninterrupted till 5:00pm.

DASKA: The PTI and PML-N are the two main parties in the hotly contested by-election of Daska.

As many as nine candidates are contesting in the said constituency including Ali Asjad Malhi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Nosheen Iftikhar of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Muhammad Khalid Sandhu (Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan) and six independent candidates—Muhammad Usman Khaild, Khawaja Asif Raza, Sumaira Islam, Syed Haider Jaffery, Syed Shah Faisal and Shamsa Saleem Bukhari.

Polling underway for by-election at NA-75

SIALKOT: The polling has started and will continue till 5pm without any break at National Assembly constituency NA-75 Sialkot-IV, Daska.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has made all necessary administrative and electoral preparations for holding peaceful, free and transparent elections.

There are 360 polling stations in the constituency of which 47 have been declared highly sensitive.

A close competition is expected between PTI's candidate Asjad Malhi and PML-N candidate Nosheen Iftikhar.
