Romance rumours boost 'Anyone But You' box office?

Romance rumours between the lead stars dominated the conversation about Anyone But You starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. Now the latter is admitting these speculations. in part, helped the movie to become a hit.

During an interview with The New York Times, the Top Gun star said, “The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry."

Noting, "That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”

Multiple outlets reported the debut of Anyone But You was a dud as the movie netted $6 million in the U.S. on the opening weekend in December but these romance rumours during the main cast press tours for the film spiked the interest in the rom-com.

However, a few months later the ticket sales boomed to over $200 million making the the film a top-grossing R-rated romantic comedy after Bridget Jones Baby in 2016.

Netizens, however, expressed their views on the internet with many commenting they were aware of the marketing ploy.
