ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi said Thursday the PTI-led government faced no threats and that more facts would be disclosed after a forensic report was finalised.

The president was referring to a report released by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following a probe wherein senior PTI leaders — including Jahangir Khan Tareen and Economic Affairs Minister Khusro Bakhtiar's brother — were named among the beneficiaries of the sugar crisis.

Tareen had responded on Monday to the revelations made in the report, saying he would challenge the committee investigating the sugar and wheat crises if it held him responsible.

The country faced a shortage of wheat and sugar after which the prime minister had ordered an inquiry into the matter, Dr Alvi said. The government was not handicapped and could take several steps, he added, noting that it was crucial to make the sugar probe report public.

The president said his opinion was taken into account on important matters.

Coronavirus was not a conspiracy, he stressed, adding thathe was working on several tasks assigned to him by Prime Minister Imran Khan and that he was in contact with him on a daily basis.

'A more rigid lockdown'

Speaking about the 18th amendment, the president said that the PTI-led government was able to bring reforms in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's health sector.

President Alvi said he had wanted a stricter lockdown to combat coronavirus and curb the rising number of cases, which have shot to almost 4,500, as of reporting time.

Reassuring the public to refrain from panic buying, he said food items were available in abundant quantity across the country.

Lamenting over the current situation in the parliament, Dr Alvi said the lawmakers were not on the same page to work on a legislation. He also refuted claims of having received any summary to dissolve the assembly.

With regard to the east-side neighbour, Dr Alvi said India blamed Pakistan even if there was untoward incident in Assam.
