About Us

Geo Fact Check is a dedicated fact-checking initiative, which is committed to fighting the spread of misinformation and disinformation online.

We help verify or debunk claims and statements made by public figures and state agencies. We also encourage input from our readers on [email protected] for any claims they might come across.

Our social media verification team monitors digital platforms and the conventional media, as well as our own, to pick material of public interest and determine its factual accuracy.

For the Geo Fact Check team facts, data and reporting trump opinions and analysis. We aim to impartially scrutinise materials without taking policy positions on the issues we fact-check.

But we are not humanoids. We are not perfect, and we can make mistakes. If our readers detect an error, we encourage them to contact us on [email protected]

Methodology

Geo Fact Check is a dedicated fact checking initiative of Geo Television in Pakistan.

Since August 2022, its fact-checking team has been scrutinizing the veracity of public claims made by Pakistani public figures, social media users and private organizations.

How do we select claims?

We monitor the electronic, print and social media daily to pick claims/allegations made by government officials, state agencies and private individuals. We also encourage our readers to send us any claims they may come across to [email protected]

We are mindful to select claims which we believe are in public interest and which could cause harm if not fact-checked in due time.

We prioritize claims which impact health and public safety.

How do we investigate a claim?

To check the veracity of an allegation, we rely on official or independent data, research and experts. In addition, we also contact officials, who would be privy to the information needed.

For photos and videos, we use advanced search tools such as Google Reverse Image, Reveye, Tineye, Bing, InVid, Exif, etc, to determine the origin of a viral video or picture.

At times, a claim is found to be true but misleading, in which case we provide context to the readers.

Geo Fact Check also works closely with the large numbers of reporters of Geo Television, spread out across Pakistan, who assist us in physically verifying information or getting access to court or government documents.

How do we ensure impartially?

We avoid adjectives and do not take policy positions or advocate on issues. We rely only on facts, data and accurate reporting.

How do we review our fact-checks?

Once written, a fact-check is reviewed by our sub-editor and the editor prior to publishing.

What is our correction policy?

If our readers detect an error, we encourage them to contact us on [email protected]. All corrections made will be clearly stated and marked at the end of the article.
