CARDIFF: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed was a jubilant man on Wednesday after team’s remarkable victory over England in the final of ICC Champions Trophy at Cardiff.

Pakistan started the tournament as underdogs, was dented by India in the opening encounter but then the “cornered tigers” fought back to overpower South Africa and Sri Lanka in group matches and England in the semifinal.

Sarfraz Ahmad, the skipper, gives credit of this unexpected success by an unpredictable Pakistan side to every team member.

“I am happy that this young team proved all the critics wrong,” Sarfraz said.

“After the first loss, we were very down, but credit goes to the team management. And credit goes to the players as well,” he said.

Sarfraz said that after winning the toss, he thought that restricting England to 260 would be good for Pakistan, but he did not think that Pakistan would bowl England out for 210 or so.

“Credit goes to the bowlers. They bowled really well, especially in the middle part, starting with Shadab. They bowled really well. They got Joe Root. Then Hassan came in, and he took wickets. Then Junaid Khan, Rumman Raees -- all credit goes to the bowlers. They bowled really well,” he said.

The 30-year-old wicket keeper batsman said that this was one of his best games and best since he became the captain.

He now has his eyes set on the big match, the final, at The Oval, to be played on June 18.

“We are ready for the final and looking forward to it,” he said.

“Bangladesh or India, whoever comes in, we are ready for the game,” the skipper added.
