Will surrender party membership after being elected as president: Mamnoon
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for the presidential slot, Mamnoon Hussain said on Wednesday that he will resign from the party membership soon after being elected as the president, Geo News reported.

After being approved as a presidential candidate by the PML-N leadership, Mamnoon Hussain reached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to submit his nomination papers today.

While talking to the media after submitting his nomination papers, he said that his party is holding consultations with all the other parties to elect him as the president. He further said that he doesn’t want to be a president like Asif Zardari or Ghulam Ishaq Khan.

Mamnoon Hussain also said that every person should strive to remove the ills from the country and work with passion.

The PML-N’s central leaders in a meeting with the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the chair finally approved Mamnoon Hussain as a candidate for the presidential election.

Following the approval, Mamnoon Hussain accompanied by the central leaders of the party including Senator Mushahid Hussain also submitted his nomination papers.

Mamnoon Hussain had earlier served as the 27th Governor of Sindh for a period of six months.

The PPP has nominated Senator Raza Rabbani as their candidate and he will be supported by the ANP and BNP. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed as their candidate for the election.

Members of the Parliament will elect a new president on August 6.
