Special Cabinet meeting on Karachi situation on Sep 4
ISLAMABAD: A special session headed by the Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif will be held at the Governor House in Karachi on Wednesday to review peace and security situation in the metropolis, Geo News reported Monday.

As violence continues to tighten its grip around Karachi, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had earlier called a special meeting for September 3 to review the law and order situation in the city but that has now been rescheduled for September 4.

Sindh governor, chief minister, chief secretary, DG Rangers, DG ISI and DG IB will also attend the upcoming cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Sharif said that the situation in Karachi was grave cause of concern and needed to be resolved with consensus.

Mutttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar has also been invited to attend the session followed by the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. It is expected that the federal cabinet will hear the stance of the MQM seeking the deployment of army in Karachi.

It may be recalled that MQM had demanded handing over the administrative control of Karachi to the army during National Assembly and Senate sessions, which was rejected by the government.
