Policemen were involved in extortion: Karachi Police Chief

KARACHI: The city’s Police Chief Shahid Hayat has admitted that policemen were involved in extortion and action had been taken against 110 personnel.

Hayat speaking to businessmen at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce said if the volatile situation in Karachi was not resolved it would be difficult to stabilise the country.

The police chief informed businessmen that extortion calls were being made from unregistered SIMs and the CIA was working to resolve this matter. “We have received a GSM locator and policemen are being trained.”

Hayat added that the number of target killers had decreased in Karachi.

Meanwhile, leaders of the business community demanded that extortion in the city should be stopped and the operation be enhanced.
