Tomato selling at over Rs200 per kilo in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The price per kilo of tomato has shot up to over Rs200 in the local retail market, while a pack of 16 kilo selling at Rs2500 in the wholesale market here, Geo News reported on Tuesday.

Citizens complained the vegetable vendors in the city market demanding a whopping price of over Rs200 for a kilo of tomato, while the vegetable retailers shifted the responsibility of this astronomical price of tomato to the wholesalers selling packs of 16 and 18 kilo tomatoes at Rs2500 and Rs3000 each respectively.

The wholesalers attributed this unusual price-hike to bad crops due to extremely hot weather.
