PBC, SCBA observe countrywide strike in support of democracy today
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will observe a complete strike today (Thursday) across the country in support of democracy, the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution.





The decision was taken during a joint executive body meeting of PBC and SCBA here at a local hotel on Wednesday. However, it was unanimously agreed that the one-day strike had nothing to do with the identical petitions of the SCBA and High Court Bar Association Multan in the Supreme Court. The petitions are seeking directions of the apex court to restrain the demonstrations of the PTI and PAT in the Red Zone of the capital, are fixed for hearing today (Thursday).

The meeting stressed on all political parties to make serious efforts and all possible practical endeavours to resolve the present political crisis in the larger national interest and for the integrity of the country without compromising constitutional and legal norms.

The meeting claimed that the legal fraternity has always upheld the supremacy of Constitution, the rule of law and independence of the judiciary and will continue to do so. The meeting also opposed any adventure through un-constitutional and un-democratic means from any side urging the impartiality of the judiciary.

Similarly, the meeting strongly condemned extra judicial killings carried out in Lahore or any other province in the country and urged that perpetrators be brought to justice.`The joint meeting also condemned call of ‘Civil Disobedience’ by Imran Khan, urging him to withdraw it.
