Sindh to punish traffic law violators with up to 4 years jail
KARACHI: In an effort to crack down on traffic violations, the Sindh Traffic Police department says it will now enforce stricter punishments on violations with imprisonment of up to four years.

We have decided to take strict legal action against violators of traffic laws, a spokesman for the department said Tuesday.

Jail sentences of between six months to four years will be handed down for breaking traffic laws and violators will also be slapped with fines, he said.

The spokesman said the department was taking these actions to crack down on those riding on roofs of passenger mini-buses, or violating traffic signals and one-way traffic routes.

The legal proceedings will be carried out by a special Judicial Magistrate Traffic under section-113 of the provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, he said.

The department will initiate its stricter implementation of existing laws from Aug 10.
