Situation volatile despite curfew in Gilgit, Chilas
GILGIT: The situation remains volatile after Tuesday’s violence and target killings in Gilgit and Chilas.

Despite the clamping of curfew, reports of sporadic firings are pouring in from some areas.

In Skardu a strike is being observed to protest against the target killing in Chilas. All schools remained closed, while attendance in government offices was nominal. Traffic is also less than normal.

Unknown armed men also set fire to a petrol station.

Astoor is also tense due to violence in Gilgit. Government sources said that all the private channels have been taken off air. Astoor Deputy Commissioner, Shahbaz Tahir Nadeem has prohibited all traffic at entry and exit roads in his area.

At least 14 people were killed in Gilgit and Chila on Tuesday and the Army was summoned to control the law and order situation.
