ECP responsible for LB polls not held: CJ

ISLAMABAD: “Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ineptly turned into a post office and it is also responsible for the Local Bodies elections not held”, said the Supreme Court Chief Justice in his remarks, while hearing here the case relating to election expenditures.

SC three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry during the hearing expressed their annoyance over ECP D.G. Sher Afghan’s not making it convenient to be present in the court.

Chief Justice in his remarks said that ECP has turned into a post office, which itself doesn’t do anything and added it was an inept organization, it should be made accountable.

“ECP is responsible for the LB elections not being held, over 30 million fake voters were got deleted from the lists, but still the voter lists are not ready, while Acting Election Commissioner was getting the lists completed on war footing,” observed the chief Justice.

On this occasion, Justice Tariq Pervaiz remarked that ECP was not an independent organization, it was surprising that its stand differs with that of the government, but both them have the same Counsel in this case.
