Kidnapped surgeon among 3 killed in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Three persons including a neuro surgeon and a policeman were killed Wednesday morning when Karachi police went to rescue Dr. Aftab Qureshi, Geo News reported.

The Sindh government has ordered an investigation into the killing of Dr. Qureshi and has summoned reports from Additional IG Karachi and DIG Police Hyderabad.

According to Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) chief Ahmed Chinoy, a joint team of CPLC and Karachi police raided a house in Qasimabad to rescue the abducted surgeon, Dr. Aftab Qureshi, and exchanged fire with the kidnappers.

During the encounter, a policeman and a kidnapper were killed while two culprits including a woman were arrested.

Chinoy said the abductors had killed Dr Qureshi before the police convoy reached at the scene. Hyderabad police was also called during the action.

Dr. Qureshi was kidnapped from Taj Complex, Karachi 20 days ago while he was returning home. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs20 million from his family.

Dr. Aftab Qureshi was a professor and the head of department of neurosurgery in Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUHMS). He was picked up by two armed men when he left his clinic along with his assistant Imdad and another man on May 13.

Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUHMS) will remain closed today to mourn the doctor’s killing.
