Punjab unveils Rs782.8 billion budget
LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday presented budget for financial year 2012-13 envisages a total outlay of Rs782.8 billion, while no new tax has been proposed.

The budget was presented by Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, who possess additional portfolio of finance minister.

The budget session of the Punjab Assembly held here under the chair of Speaker Rana Muhamamd Iqbal.

Earlier, the Punjab cabinet approved Rs 780 billion budget for fiscal 2012-13, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired the meeting at his camp office.

The amount earmarked for development projects will be Rs 246 billion.

The amount fixed for social development is Rs 85 billion while education and health sectors will get Rs 30 billion and Rs 18 billion respectively.

Other allocations include Rs 67 billion for infrastructure, Rs 10 billion for production, Rs 70 billion for police and Rs 9 billion for service sector.

About Rs 20 billion have also been earmarked for subsidies on various sectors.

Some Rs 13 billion was allocated for women development and Rs 0.35 billion for minorities while Rs 4 billion allocated for Ramadan bazaars.

The cabinet also okayed continuation of schemes like Ashiana, yellow cab and laptop during the financial year 2012-13.

Easy loan schemes for women and small farmers have also been proposed in the tax free Punjab budget 2012-13.

Punjab’s revenue for the year 2012-13 has been estimated at Rs640 billion, while the province would be receiving Rs710 billion from the federation under NFC award.
