MQM allowed to become party in voter lists case
ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday allowed Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to become party in the voter lists case, Geo News reported.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, in his remarks, said the court had ordered to confirm voters at door-step. He said ECP has no right to transfer vote of anyone by its own. CJP further said army could be called in if needed.

DG ECP informed the court that there were many errors in the unofficial voter lists, which are being removed.

He said 14 million forms were filled but 2.7 voters were not confirmed in Karachi.

DG ECP further said name of one voter was repeated 10-12 in the list. The number of voters was 6.6 million in 2007 in Karachi.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) counsel Rasheed A Rizvi said his name is enrolled with previous residential address and no ECP representative visited his residence.
