ECP Secretary meets political leaders on delimitation of Khi constituencies
KARACHI: The Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) met with the leaders of various political parties to discuss the delimitation of constituencies in the metropolis.

Meanwhile the election commission also issued a notice for the delimitation of provincial constituencies in Nowshero Feroz.

Speaking to the media Secretary ECP Ishtiaque Ahmed said he would be meeting with ten political parties and he had already met with representatives from the PPP, PML-N ANP, MQM, PML-Q, PTI and JI.

“If we fail to meet any party today, we can meet them tomorrow,” Ahmed said.

He added that all political parties should submit their advices regarding the delimitation of constituencies within one week to the ECP.

The delegation of the PML-N led by Salim Zia met with the ECP Secretary.

Speaking to the media following the meeting, Zia said his party had complete confidence in the Chief Election Commissioner and the ECP Secretary however the same could not be said about the Election Commissioner in Sindh.

Zia added that if the Police, Rangers and administration were rendered helpless on election day, there was no point in holding elections in Karachi.

Earlier, Leaders of Awami National Party (ANP) Bashir Jan and Ameer Nawab held talks with the ECP Secretary. The ANP leaders ensured full support to the Election Commission on the issue.

Talking to media following their meeting, Bashir Jan said that he didn’t know the agenda of the meeting. He said that they received a phone call from the EC office, directing them to meet the secretary.

The ANP leader said that his party’s demand to delimit the city’s constituencies has been approved. He said that the recommendation in this regard will be submitted within three days.

The Secretary also met a delegation of PPP leaders. The delegation included Taj Haider, Najmi Alam, Lal Bakhsh Bhutto were present in the meeting.

A delegation of MQM leaders also met with the Election Commission Secretary.

Speaking to the media, Raza Haroon from the MQM said the delimitation of constituencies should be on the basis of census.
