Police nab 11 suspects involved in May 12 carnage in Karachi

KARACHI: Police on Tuesday apprehended 11 suspects involved in May 12, 2007 carnage in Karachi from Malir area of megapolis, while three more suspects were killed in an alleged encounter with police in Manghopir, officials said.

After Tuesday's arrests, the overall number of under custody suspects in connection with May 12 killings in Karachi reached 20.

Police conducted raids in different areas in which 11 suspects were arrested, said SSP Malir Rao Anwar. The arrested suspects are also wanted by Airport police as well in a number of cases, who include two fire brigade officials.

In Manghopir, police signaled a vehicle to stop during snap checking, at which the persons in the vehicle allegedly opened fire on the policemen, said officials.

An exchange of fire ensued between the police and suspects that resulted in the killing of three suspects.

Two cops were also wounded in the gunbattle.
