JIT ordered, to interrogate Mayor of Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department on Wednesday issued a notification for constitution of a Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) to interrogate Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar.

The decision to constitute and conduct an JIT interrogation come in light of two recent cases filed against Akhtar who has been in custody since 27th July this year.

Karachi’s Mayor Waseem Akhtar may hold the key to the city but it seems it will take some time before he can get the keys to get out of prison.

The latest cases registered against Akhtar include one each in Sachal Police Station and one in Malir Police Station.

The charges against Waseem Akhtar in the two recent cases include section 120-A, 120-B, 121, 122, 123-A, 109 which range from criminal conspiracy, waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistan, colleting arms with intention of waging war against Pakistan and condemnation of the creation of the State.

The JIT according to the order will be headed by a Senior Superintendent of Police, and will comprise one representative each from ISI, MI and Rangers not below the rank of Major, while representatives from IB Sindh, Special Branch, CTD will not be below the rank of SP.

The notification states, that the JIT will interrogate and investigate the charges within seven days and will submit its report within two days of completion of interrogation.

The notification however has not stated whether the joint interrogation will take place in prison or at a different location.
