Better late than never: Punjab slashes expenses for officials

LAHORE: In a better-late-than-never move, the Government of Punjab on Tuesday issued a notification slashing expenses for government officials.

According to the notification, official residences would no longer have repairs or renovations. Officials, for highly important tours, would now travel via Economy Class only, said the Punjab government.

Provincial departments were asked to rely on the already allocated budget for them and not to request for supplementary grants. The government also ordered public employees to take prior permission for foreign tours and purchase of vehicles.

Several cases of misuse of authority have surfaced in the past, in which the officials were seen spending extensively to their ease, and on government's expense.

The practice has caused considerable loss to the treasury, forcing the government to issued aforementioned orders.
