LAHORE: Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars has started draws to award scholarships to students attending the Jazz Rising Stars T20 tournament at Gaddafi Stadium.

In the first such draw, the franchise awarded a scholarship worth a semester’s fee to a student named Abu Bakr.

Talking to Geo Super, Abu Bakr said he was thankful for the scholarship and invited other students to come to the ground to avail the chance and cheer on the participating teams.

Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana said Lahore Qalandars is committed to discovering and rewarding talent. Talking about the latest initiative, he said the franchise wants to financially support young, aspiring cricketers from Pakistan.

“We don’t want a talented potential cricketer to abandon the sport because of financial pressures and therefore want to support such players,” he said.

The Jazz Rising Stars T20 tournament is currently underway at Gaddafi Stadium, where players selected from the trials organised by Lahore Qalandars can be seen in action.

The players draft for PSL 2017 will take place in October.

The draft order will follow the principle of placing the bottom-placed team from the previous year at an advantage. Subsequently, Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in every round.

Karachi Kings will have the second pick, Peshawar Zalmi third, Quetta Gladiators fourth, and Islamabad United will make the final pick in every round.
