Younis Khan: The batting artisan who continues to make and break records

KARACHI: Pakistan’s master batsman Younis Khan continues to make more chapters of record books to his name with his consistent performance in the longest format of cricket.

With an innings of 127 runs against West Indies on the first day of 2nd Test at Abu Dhabi, Younis uplifted his position to in players with most centuries by surpassing Australia’s Steve Waugh to 9th position.

With 33 centuries in Test Career, Younis Khan is now only one century behind West Indian great Brian Lara, India’s Sunil Gavaskar and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene to the join them jointly at 6th place in players with most Test centuries.

The list is led by India’s Sachin Tendulkar with 51 scores of a hundred of more to his credit.

Younis also added 175 runs for the 4th wicket partnership along with his captain Misbah ul Haq today, this was 65th 100+ stand involving Younis Khan. No other Pakistani player has been involved in 50 century partnerships, next to Younis is Miandad with involvement in 50 century partnerships.

Rahul Dravid 88, Sachin Tendulkar 86, Ricky Ponting 85, Jayawardene 76, Chandarpaul 70, Alistair Cook and Kallis with 69 events of contributing into a century stands are ahead than Younis Khan in the list.

With this stand of 175, Younis and Misbah ul Haq became Pakistan’s most successful batting partners—3,156 runs scored between them— surpassing 3,137 runs between Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan.

Interestingly, Younis is involved in three of the top five aggregate batting partnerships for Pakistan in Test Cricket.

Younis Khan’s innings/century ratio is 5.87. The only player with a better innings/century ratio than Younis Khan is Don Bradman, with a ratio of 2.75 innings per century.

Also, Younis Khan has the second best rate for converting 50s into 100s. Younis Khan has converted 52.38% of his scores of 50s into 100s, and once again the only player with a better conversion rate of 50/100 than Younis is Don Bradman with a conversion at 69.04%.
