KARACHI: Former Punjab Police Inspector General Shaukat Javed on Wednesday said that there is heavy presence of criminal elements in the bordering areas of Sindh and Punjab - adjoining Indus River, known as ‘Kachay ka Illaqay.”

Speaking in Geo News' programme, Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath, Javed said that the said areas have sanctuaries of criminals and terrorists. “Army had to be brought in for Chotu Gang,” he said. “Police have little or no control in those areas.”

The former Punjab police chief added that the operation named by terror group - Ghazi Operation- is named after a person who used to live in the said tribal areas of Punjab, he reiterated that in view of bringing peace and maintaining law and order these areas must be brought in control.

“The tribal areas in Punjab must be eradicated along with Balochistan`s B areas,” he said.

Javed said that the police failed to maintain writ in Malakand, as parts of the district are in FATA.

“We have to merge these areas with the mainstream of the country by going with a holistic approach.”
