One law for rich another for poor, laments Senate chairperson

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani said that in a poor society there are four to five criteria of justice, therefore, the law faces difficulty running its course.

Speaking at a ceremony of Youm-e-Shudae Sahafat, he said that one of the standards seem to favour the elite.

Taking a jibe at former president Gen (Rtd) Pervaiz Musharraf, he said: “Take Article 6, the courts summon the suspect, he doesn’t appear. The court again calls him and he leaves the country. No one says anything to him about this case.”

Whereas, on the other hand, laws are implemented for the common men. “We need to ask is our society regressing or progressing?” he asked.

Rabbani said that in the Akbar Bugti case, the then interior minister went to the court and got clean chit, he remarked that whoever has money and power he can do anything he wants in the country.

He also said that journalists of the country have given the most sacrifices for democracy, further adding that if the journalists and labourers were not part of the movement for restoration of democracy in the country, political situation would have been drastically different.

The chairman senate said that to establish its sanctity, the Parliament has to deliver its performance by protecting the rights of the marginalised.
