KARACHI: At least four people, including a woman, were killed in firing incidents early Wednesday morning, while alleged target killer Asif and eight others were arrested during numerous raids and search operations conducted by police in various areas of the metropolis, Geo News reported.

Unidentified individuals broke into a house in Lyari’s Ali Muhammad neighbourhood and killed a married couple. Police commented that the incident – that led to the deaths of Sana, 32, and Taj Muhammad, 40 – stemmed from a gang war and that further investigation is under way.

Moreover, a man was killed during a house robbery in Jamshed Town. Three dacoits entered a house on Jahangir Road No 2 early Wednesday morning.

Two dacoits stood outside the house while one broke the lock and entered the house. He looted the people in the house during which a house resident, identified as Haider, tried to escape and jumped from the roof of his house. Haider eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Hearing the ruckus, Haider’s neighbour, Habib-ul-Rehman, came out of his house and was also injured due the robbers’ firing.

In similar firing incidents, 33-year-old Zubair was killed in Keamari Jackson, while 28-year-old Qazi Muhammad was injured in Nazimabad.

Police operations, arrests

Operations were carried out in Karachi’s North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Baldia's Ittehad Town, Orangi Town, with police recovering weapons, drugs, and stolen goods from some of these areas.

During the police’s crackdown on criminal elements in Baldia’s Ittehad Town, three suspects – Amin, Muhammad Arif, and Noor Muhammad – were taken into custody. Weapons and contraband were recovered from the arrestees, who were reportedly involved in various crimes.

Police also conducted operations in Orangi Town’s Iqbal Market – during which target killer Asif and street criminal Naimatullah were arrested – and recovered weapons as wells as contraband. Asif confessed to killing a shopkeeper in Ittehad Town.

In Liaquatabad and North Nazimabad, three other suspects – Muhammad Noman (nicknamed Nomi), Imran, and Rahim Bakhsh – were taken into custody by police, which also recovered weapons, stolen goods, and a motorcycle during the operation.

In addition, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in an operation in the city’s suburbs arrested Bashir Ahmed – a criminal wanted by Larkana Police Station – for murder, attempted murder, kidnapping for ransom, land-grabbing, among numerous other crimes.

Ahmed had killed 18-year-old Yasir in 2016 for not paying extortion money and had since absconded.
