Women's World Cup: Kiwis defeat Pakistan in a one-sided encounter

New Zealand won by eight wickets in their match against Pakistan in Taunton on Saturday after chasing 145-runs in 15 overs. 

Sophie Devine played a sure-footed inning of 93 runs off 41 balls, supported by Amy Satterthwaite (38).

Ealier, Pakistani skipper Sana Mir scored a fighting half-century against New Zealand in Taunton on Saturday to put a vital contribution in Pakistan`s score of 144 runs.

Team Pakistan was searching for their first victory in the ICC Women`s World Cup 2017. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat.

The match held historical significance for Pakistan skipper Sana Mir, who has become the first female cricketer from the country to play in 100 ODIs.

Pakistan`s opening and middle order failed to score big as the top five batters scored merely 46 runs.  

Although not mathematically eliminated, Pakistan’s chances of progressing were slim, but Sana Mir felt the team has learned a lot so far, and needs to build on that experience.

“What’s very important is that we are able to bat out the 50 overs like we did against Australia. We need the young girls who are playing in the future to get an opportunity to face the best bowlers in the world. This is a learning curve for the newcomers."
