Nawaz to remain PM, decides high-level PML-N huddle

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders held a top level meeting on Saturday decided that Nawaz Sharif will remain the prime minister and the party would utilise all the legal and constitutional options if needed after submission of the JIT report.

The high-level meeting of the PML-N leaders, chaired by the premier, discussed the political situation of the country.

The prime minister said that he presented himself before the Joint Investigation Team for the supremacy of the law.

“My entire family was summoned, but we were not informed about the allegations against us,” he said.

PML-N leaders express reservations over JIT

Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, who was also present in the meeting, said that the JIT has been controversial since day one.

He said that the JIT should have been headed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), while expressing reservation over the inclusion of security agencies in the process of investigation.

“Under which law, the permission to tap phone calls was given,” asked Rafique.

Inclusion of former Qatari PM mandatory for investigation: Khawaja Asif

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that it was mandatory to include former Qatari prime minister in the investigation process. 

He warned that failure to do so would lead to the rejection of the JIT report.

The federal ministers also demanded that the JIT’s performance should also be made public and the masses should be informed what the PM and his family have been interrogated about.
