Couldn't mobilise PPP in Punjab, admits Chan

KARACHI: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) member Nadeem Afzal Chan on Sunday admitted that they could not mobilise the party in Punjab the way they were supposed to.

The statement by the former PPP Punjab secretary general came days after he resigned from the party post.

Speaking on Geo News programme 'Jirgah', Chan said, "We could not moblise PPP and Bilawal in Punjab the way we were supposed to; this is a failure."

He said being the provincial secretary general said how would he stop others if he failed to stop his own brother from leaving the party.

"I haven't left the party, only stepped down from the party post," the PPP Punjab leader said.

Sources had earlier informed that the Chan’s resignation was not accepted by PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who instead directed Nadeem to continue working on the post.

Later, co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had summoned the political leader to Lahore.

Nadeem had reasoned that he resigned from the post as his brother Waseem Afzal joined political rival, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“Since my brother has joined political opponent, I should resign from the post on ethical grounds,” he had said.
