PTI's Waleed Iqbal, Seemi Aizdi win Senate by-election

LAHORE: Both Senate seats from Punjab on which by-election were held today (Thursday) were won by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Waleed Iqbal won on a general seat and Seemi Aizdi emerged winner on a reserved seat for women, following the vote count after 5pm.

The seats fell vacant after the de-notification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz members, Saadia Abbasi, the sister of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Haroon Akhtar, as members of the Parliament for possessing dual nationality.

The PTI members were contesting against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's Saud Majeed and Saira Afzal Tarar.

Iqbal won with 184 votes, while Majeed secured 176 votes.

On the women's seat, Aizdi was able to get 183 votes while Tarar got 175 votes.

A total of 358 votes were cast in the by-election.

Polling for the vacant Senate seats commenced at the Punjab Assembly building in Lahore at 9am and concluded at 4pm.

By-election on NA-258, PB-5

By-election in district Duki, Balochistan for provincial assembly seat PB-5 and National Assembly seat NA-258 were also held today.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of all 23 polling stations, Balochistan Awami Party's (BAP) Sardar Israr Tareen won with 41,818 votes, while Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal secured 37,049 votes.  

Independent candidate Masood Ali Looni clinched victory on PB-5, getting 12,800 votes while BAP's Sardar Nasir finished second with 5,329 votes.

PB-5 was won by independent candidate Masood Luni in the general election, who later joined the Balochistan Awami Party. The election was, however, challenged by PML-N's Dur Muhammad Nasir, alleging rigging.

Results of 23 polling stations in the NA-258 election, won by independent candidate Sardar Israr, were challenged by Jamiat-e-Islam-F member Ameez Zaman.

The 23 polling stations of NA-258 and all 75 of PB-5 were declared highly sensitive.
