On Friday, Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed apologised to Andile Phehlukwayo in person

South African cricketers Hashmi Amla, Imran Tahir along with Pakistan’s Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq played a role in resolving matters between Sarfaraz Ahmed and Andile Phehlukwayo, sources informed Geo News on Saturday.

During the 37th over of South Africa's chase in the second ODI on Tuesday, Sarfaraz was caught on the stump mics saying in Urdu to Phehlukwayo: "Abey kaale, teri ammi aaj kahaan baitheen hain? Kya parwa ke aaye hai aaj?” which translated to, "Hey black guy, where's your mother sitting today? What [prayer] have you got her to say for you today?"

On Friday, Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed apologised to Andile Phehlukwayo in person for his on-the-field comments.

Sarfaraz posted a photo of him shaking hands with South African cricketer at an undisclosed venue in presence of team managers, Talat Ali from Pakistan and Mohammad Moosajee from South Africa.

“This morning I apologized to Andile Phehlukwayo and he was gracious enough to accept my apology .and I hope the people of South Africa also accept my apology,” Sarfaraz Ahmed wrote in his tweet along with the photo.

The development cleared the way for Sarfraz to settle the dispute through conciliation under the International Cricket Council (ICC) and avoid being formally charged for breach of the code of conduct.

Under clause 4.3.1 of ICC’s anti-racism code, a case — if ICC and both the players express consent — can be settled through conciliation without anyone facing disciplinary action.
